Fortnite is possibly the biggest videogame of all times at the moment, boasting over 10 million players daily. Since the game has that many people playing the game daily, Epic Games, the company behind the title is trying to take security measures to protect people’s accounts. Best way to do it in today’s technology is Two-factor Authentication or shortly known as 2FA.
Two-factor Authentication works with two different validation mechanisms. Once you sign in to two-factor authentication, you will get a validation code to your e-mail or through a third authentication app such as Google Authenticator, LastPass Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or Authy. The most common one being through e-mail within these options. These measures were taken to protect the player’s accounts after Epic started receiving a lot of account theft related tickets. Also, it’s a great way to expand your already big title towards a safer platform.
It works in a simple way. Once you enable 2FA on your account, you will receive a validation code and enter it on the Epic Games website. From that on whenever you try to log in on your account from another device, you will be asked to enter the validation code. This is to protect your account from anybody that has your login details. So even if you lose your login details to someone else, they will not be able to have access unless they provide the 2FA code, giving your account an extra layer of security.
You can see Epic promoting 2FA heavily on their website and even with their events. So far, there have been many events that you could participate in only if you’ve enabled Two-factor authentication.
